The forgotten children/ Los niños olvidados

I wanted to share a thought with you, it's why I put the Unicef logo in this webpage, it says in Swedish, "The World needs more parents". I read this article about the children in Bangladesh (sorry, in Spanish) (or copy this: www.elpais.com/especial/los-agujeros-negros-del-planeta/bangladesh.html) it's heartbreaking. It's a journalist from the newspaper "El País", who talks with some of the children that live in the street in Bangladesh (more than 700.000 children live in the streets there). The journalist talks with a kid that when came from the land with his mother, got lost or he doesn't know exactly what happened and ended up in the street, sleeping there or in the train station, running from the police, which wanted to hit them. At the end he discovered that others kids go somewhere on the day and he follows them, they go to an education centre from Unicef and in the centre they find him a secure place to sleep and eat. The journalist takes up other stories, a kid that escaped because his stepmother hit him often, another one that can't say his age but looks around 6 and hopes that his mother, who abandoned him will find him back, and of course the girls, who are in a bigger risk to be kidnapped and sold. Terrible. You just want to get all the 700.000 kids and put them in your home, safe. But you can't do that. However, Unicef and other ONGs do exactly that, or as much as they can. And you can talk about politics in many cases, what is better to do or not in some countries but about the kids, I think every adult is responsible for an abandoned child.

Hay más de 700.000 niños que viven en la calle en Bangladesh, y el periodista habla con algunos de ellos. Cuenta de un niño que llegó del campo con su madre, se perdió y acabó en la calle, durmiendo en las estaciones, escapando de polis que le persiguían con palos. Al final sigue a otros niños de la calle que van por el día a un centro educativo abierto por Unicef y allí le encuentran un sitio donde dormir y comer. El periodista sigue contando de otros niños, algunos muy pequeñitos, que han sido abandonados y aún esperan volver ver a sus madres, otros que han escapado porque les pegaban en casa, y por supuesto el peligro aún mayor para las niñas, que pueden ser secuestradas y vendidas a grupos de prostitución. En fin, que es difícil leer esto, ponerse en su piel, sólo dan ganas de traerse a los 700.000 niños a casa, a dormir seguros. Pero eso no lo puedes hacer, sin embargo, las ONGs sí que lo hacen, en la medida que pueden. Y es que en otros casos se podrá discutir de política, si dar más o menos ayudas, pero en el caso de los niños, yo creo que cada adulto debe ser responsable de un niño abandonado
